BookLib for iOS is a companion app for a self-hosted BookLib server. This policy explains how the app handles information.

No centralized BookLib service

The app does not send personal information, library contents, credentials, or usage information to Ryan Offir or to a centralized BookLib service. It does not include advertising, analytics, tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs.

Your BookLib server

You choose the BookLib server to which the app connects. Information you enter or view in the app is transmitted directly to that server so the requested feature can work. Depending on how you use BookLib, this may include:

  • Your server address
  • Your BookLib username and password
  • Session authentication tokens
  • Book titles, authors, identifiers, notes, descriptions, tags, and covers
  • Shelf names and book locations
  • Borrower names and checkout information

The operator of the server controls that server and its stored data. Its security, retention, backups, access policies, and privacy practices are the responsibility of the server operator. If someone else operates your server, ask that person or organization how they handle your information.

Information stored on your device

The app stores the selected server address and app preferences on your device. Authentication tokens and, when you enable Stay signed in, your username and password are stored in the iOS Keychain. Signing out removes the saved BookLib credentials from the device.

The Apple Watch companion does not store separate server credentials. It asks the paired iPhone for library information when needed.

Camera access

The app requests camera access only when you use barcode scanning. Barcode recognition is performed on the device, and the detected ISBN is sent to your configured BookLib server for lookup. BookLib does not record or upload camera video.

External catalogue services

Your BookLib server may use OpenLibrary and, if configured by the server operator, Google Books to retrieve public book metadata and cover images. The iOS app may also open catalogue pages in your browser when you select an external source link. Those services have their own privacy policies.

Apple services

iOS and the App Store may process information under Apple’s privacy policy. BookLib does not receive that information from Apple.

Children’s privacy

BookLib is a general-purpose personal library tool and is not directed to children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect children’s information through a centralized BookLib service.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when BookLib’s functionality or data handling changes. The effective date above identifies the latest revision.
